Registration at Amundson Park in Stoughton starts at 8:30 with tee-off for the Open competition at 9:00 and for Beginners at 10:00. As in the past, this will be a fun event to introduce the sport of disc golf to families and to raise money for Stoughton Area youth programs. The tournament is open to all. Players of similar skill and age levels will play against one another in an 18 hole, lowest score competition with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each division. Even if you don’t play, come out and cheer on the competitors, support our local youth, or simply to take a walk along the beautiful Yahara River Trail that runs through the Kiwanis Disc Golf Course. During this spring tournament, wildflowers will be blooming and wildlife, possibly even our local osprey, may be seen. Kiwanis President Sharon Mason-Boersma announced a few improvements for this year’s event. Open and Beginning players will compete at different times, so “those who are just learning can enjoy the game and not feel pressured.” The Open competition begins at 9:00 and Beginners start at 10:00, immediately after the Open concludes. Also, the first 20 youth (high school students and younger) to enter receive a free disc. This incentive is provided to encourage more youth to take up the sport, and for many may be their first disc. The tournament will be held at the scenic Kiwanis Disc Golf Course in Amundson Park in Stoughton. Parking is available in the lot at the bottom of the hill at the north end of Amundson Parkway. A short 100 yard walk down the Yahara River Trail brings participants to the course. The entry fee is only $5. This covers entry into the competition, and provides an opportunity to learn how to play Disc Golf and a chance to win novelty and door prizes donated by local sponsors. Spotters from the Stoughton Area Key Club and Aktion Club will be on hand to help find errant discs. Registration starts at 8:30 AM on the day of the event, with starting times of 9 and 10 for the Open and Beginners, respectively. The Awards Ceremony immediately follows competition in each bracket.
